Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground breakfast sausage
  • 1 cup diced yellow onion
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 6 cups cubed white bread
  • 12 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

Instructions:

  1. Brown the breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat until mahogany-colored and crumbly. Add the onions and bell peppers, cooking until the vegetables are translucent. Drain excess grease.
  2. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Spread the bread cubes evenly across the bottom, scatter the cooked sausage and vegetable mixture over the bread, and top with the shredded cheddar cheese.
  3. Whisk the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a large bowl until homogenous and frothy. Pour the liquid evenly over the bread and meat, pressing down slightly with a spatula.
  4. Bake in the oven until the center is set and the top is a deep golden brown, and the edges begin to pull away slightly from the sides of the dish.
