Ingredients:
- 1 lb lean ground breakfast sausage
- 12 slices thick-cut Texas Toast
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup green onions, thinly sliced
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups 2% milk
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
Instructions:
- Brown the lean sausage in a skillet over medium-high heat until no pink remains, then drain the excess fat thoroughly using a paper towel-lined plate.
- Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with olive oil spray. Scatter cubed Texas toast evenly across the bottom, then layer the browned sausage, shredded cheddar cheese, and sliced green onions on top.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika until uniform. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread and cheese, pressing down with a spatula to ensure all bread is submerged.
- Cover the dish with foil and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow the bread to hydrate.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove foil and bake for 30–35 minutes until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
